To some, a conservative is anyone who isn’t a liberal. I suppose that’s fair enough.
Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case as Americans divide into camps about differing political views.
For one, being a conservative is about economic principles.
For another, conservatism is about social issues.
What if I told you it’s both? Would that turn you off?
I certainly hope not.
In 1787, the founding fathers had a vision for America. They knew and expected it would evolve. That’s only natural as new leaders, new issues, and circumstances confront the country. I always say that anyone has a right to their opinions. However, they don’t have a right to their own made-up facts.
Three Words Define Conservatism
To understand conservatism, one must have a basic understanding of early America, grasp civics, and have a core belief about the US Constitution’s purpose. If you want to know the core difference between a conservative and someone who isn’t. It comes down to three words:
- Hope.
- Opportunity
- Happiness
The Founding Fathers enshrined these three principles in the Declaration of Independence. At the time of ratification, Congress the Constitution guaranteed these ideals.
It’s what has made America the land of the free for over two centuries. In the Bill of Rights, 7 of the ten amendments tell the government what it cannot do, and the Tenth Amendment states that what’s not in the founding document is reserved for the states or the people.
This answers many questions about why states do things the federal government cannot do.
This is the heart of conservatism – Ensuring that the federal government maintains its lane, respects the sovereignty of the states, and guarantees individual liberties.
Conservatives don’t just stand on this principle, but many more.
Conservatism seeks to help make the lives of citizens better through engagement, citizenship, and support of one another.
Whenever the government assumes these roles, it does so not out of generosity or because it cares.
It does so for influence, power, sustained growth, and leverage over our lives.
The result is dependency on the government through programs that trap Americans.
How often have you heard a parent or grandparent say they can’t work so many hours or start a business because if they do, the government will cut their Social Security?
What is the True American Dream?
Liberalism and progressivism stifle people from fulfilling their God-given dreams and using their talents and skills to better the world.
Conservatism is the only means of doing that… and no amount of liberalism or government programs can achieve that aim.
You and I both know that’s true.
This is the true American dream. It’s the reason why immigrants have come from around the world to America for three hundred years.
So, if you ever contemplate the question, what is conservatism – it’s the only political means of hope, opportunity, and happiness. Conservatism holds the solutions to most of America’s problems when it is properly adhered to, and inspires people to dig deeper and go further in fulfilling their God-given purpose and talents.
As I share with you today’s news, I’ll be taking a look back into history and gleaning from its relevance to today’s chaos.
I’ll contrast what Democrats and Republicans are doing, and expose for you the pitfalls that harm America’s legacy and hurt your future prospects.
I look forward to making the news relevant for you from a conservative perspective!!!!
