In 1787, the founding fathers created a new form of government around the principles that citizens could govern themselves. While the word “Liberty” seems rebellious to the Left today, the term has a simple meaning. It conveys the idea that government is constrained and limited. For example, seven of the 10 Bill of Rights tell the government what it cannot do. The Tenth Amendment ensures liberty by prohibiting it from seizing powers not explicitly granted to it in the Constitution.
So, why is President Joe Biden attacking so-called “MAGA Republicans?” Why is he defining the GOP, who overwhelmingly supports the Trump agenda, so negatively? To get to the truth, we must peel the layers back and explain what the MAGA agenda is really about. When we do, it’s obvious why it’s good for the country and a threat to Biden and the Democratic Party.
What is MAGA?
While MAGA is an acronym for “Make America Great Again,” it’s what it represents that’s so much more to many Americans. In 2016, America endured decades of economic decline for the average middle-class and working family. In the summer of 2016, the US Bureau of Labor Statics reported that 95.1 million Americans were no longer in the labor workforce and weren’t eligible for unemployment. They either stopped looking for work or were no longer qualified for unemployment benefits.
What was behind the problems?
The Democratic Party wants you to believe they care for you. In doing so, they create government programs that inhibit hope, opportunity, and happiness. Welfare traps untold millions of people and de-incentives them from pursuing a better life. They make government dependence feel safe since it’s a guaranteed benefit so long as one stays in poverty.
Yet, it strips people of their hopes and dreams and subtly tells them this is your life, and it’s the best it will ever get. In turn, these programs strip people of their dignity and leave them in despair. It prevents them from using their God-given talents, skills, and abilities to make a difference in the world around them – ultimately robbing a person of joy and the pursuit of happiness.
So, what are the policies behind MAGA?
The Economy, Trade, and Jobs
The economy is a complex monster. Still, many Americans believe the government stacked the deck against them. Two principal problems helped create this impression. First, in the 1990s, NAFTA shifted economic power from the middle class to Mexico. It enabled US manufacturers to leave for countries with cheap labor. By 2016, manufacturing towns had become ghost towns. Then-President Barack Obama even said those jobs weren’t coming back.
Second, Congress and past presidents empowered China to create a significant trade imbalance. In turn, it costed middle-class working jobs that made America the wealthiest and most prosperous country in the world.
Through trade policies, the politicians made China rich while harming its own citizens.
Smaller Government
When the government aligns with the US Constitution and founding principles, it can’t trap people. It also reduces the government’s ability to misbehave. For example, Congress can’t just give its powers to the executive branch. Yet, that’s what’s been happening for decades. In turn, the administrative state has become enormous, bloated, unaccountable, and out of control. In recent years, the US Supreme Court has been working overtime to right the ship by not allowing agencies to write regulations with the weight of law without specific congressional authorization.
Anti-Wokeness
Over the last two years, the movement has embraced common sense ideals and refuted wokeness. Conservatives believe that society has rules to live by, and those rules include not harming children who shouldn’t make big decisions like changing their gender before they are adults and can decide for themselves. Or, pushing Critical Race Theory on children, or using reverse racism to right past wrongs.
Illegal Immigration
Since Biden took office in January 2021, illegal immigration has decimated the country. One study says illegal immigration cost taxpayers $116 billion per year. With the rise of inflation, it’s likely much higher. These migrants receive free health care in emergency rooms, kids go to public school for free, and many receive government welfare benefits. On top of that, there’s the legal and judicial cost.
While the Left claims illegal immigrants pay taxes, the in-depth study revealed the cost outweighs the taxes paid by the migrants to federal and state governments, which are approximately 7 to 1. It also suggests 35% or more operate in the underground economy, which allows them to make non-reportable incomes while getting government benefits.
Biden and Democrats on the Attack
In the end, MAGA policies have always been policies of the GOP. The only difference is for decades, the Republicans were incapable or unwilling to draw the contrast between the policies that create prosperity and the ones that inhibit it. Democrats have always been good at using language to scare voters. They’re doing it again.
On Labor Day, Biden said Republicans were coming for Social Security. That’ll strike fear into seniors who don’t know any better. Trump always said the program should be protected for those who paid into it, and so do most Republicans.
MAGA policies are a direct threat to the Left. They want to create a larger, more expansive, controlling government over your everyday lives. The president and congressional Democrats are the ones that proposed:
- An “equity” system that seeks to ensure everyone receives the same outcomes but little to no opportunities.
- A financial system to snoop on your finances.
- Abortion policies that allowed the termination of pregnancy up until the birth of a child.
- A healthcare system where the government decides who gets benefits and who doesn’t.
- A legal system that leaves citizens without a means to protect themselves while eroding a police presence.
- A federal election system with massive potential for cheating to help ensure Democrats win election after election.
- Massive changes to Title IX that illegally include transgenderism as a protected class without approval from Congress.
- Forced vaccine mandates that pushed untold numbers of health professionals out of health care.
- Critical Race Theory in public education that told white children they were oppressors.
- Destroying US energy production while begging Saudi Arabia to replace US oil.
- Marching alongside 2020 protestors and rioters who cost insurers and businesses hundreds of billions of dollars in losses and destroyed lives.
During COVID, it was Democratic states that imposed harsh lockdowns, including governors violating freedom of religion guaranteed in the US Constitution. In several instances, they gave wide latitude to businesses that didn’t have Constitutional rights, as opposed to people of faith who do.
There is so much more.
MAGA is under attack from Biden, Democrats, and the media because their record isn’t one they can win on. For one, most Americans, even Democrats, would align with the MAGA agenda if it weren’t for the demonization of the word. Strip MAGA from the policies, and you have a country ready to embrace them.
On April 5, some Leftists warned America that Biden’s dark messaging was coming. MSNBC political analyst John Heilemann warned to have a chance at winning, Democrats would need to scare voters to death. He stated the Democratic base would not cast a ballot based on the economy or hope.
Biden’s reckless rhetoric that MAGA Republicans are semi-fascists intent on destroying America isn’t truthful. The movement’s policies are traditional conservative policies that Trump proved worked for America. The economy was among the best over the last century. There were more jobs than people to fill them who were looking, Trump disposed of burdensome government regulations, and the southern border was under control.
Here’s the question everyone should ask. When will Biden’s insanity end?
When voters demand it.
That must happen in November, or the Left will learn extremism works.
