Irresponsible political rhetoric is nothing new. In the election of 1780, President John Adams and Vice President Thomas Jefferson participated in some of the most heated personal vitriol known to mankind. The two founding fathers stooped so low they accused their mothers of horrendous things. Ahead of the Civil War, members of Congress sometimes fought on the floor of the House using fists and objects instead of words. One would be hard-pressed for political candidates to get away with that today.
Still, there’s something very different in the air. Before anyone accuses me of going off on Democrats, I’ll ask a simple question… in what way are conservatives personalizing election rhetoric? It appears that Democrats running for office and those in the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are participating in a scorched Earth political stunt to distract voters from their record. The question is, will it work?
Democrats Go On Attack In Unprecedented Fashion
Let’s look at a few examples of the narrative coming from Democratic candidates. If you’re a Republican concerned about voter integrity, you support racists, those who want to suppress votes, and election deniers. Biden called election reform laws Jim Crow 2.0. All the while, evidence continues to mount across the country of shenanigans. The Heritage Foundation proved there were 1,374 proven instances of voter fraud and 1,182 criminal convictions. There are enough examples of voter fraud to suggest it could impact a close election. So, coming out of 2020, why wouldn’t states enact common-sense reforms instead of unleashing a dam that further erodes voters’ trust?
There’s much more… Some Democrats constantly state that Republican candidates are extremists and dangerous. That’s fool’s folly. Has anyone stopped to ask them if allowing unfettered abortion up until the time of birth is extreme? Is radically overhauling the greatest economic engine in the history of the world extreme? What about turning society upside down on its head? Isn’t all that extreme?
There are more examples than I can write about. From transgender issues to Critical Race Theory in public education to spending America into inflation and decreasing the quality of life. What about the extreme COVID lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 in Democratic-led states such as California and New York that helped precipitate the economic recession the US is facing? Or, what about the massive problem with mental health among America’s youth?
Folks, they are trying to take advantage of America’s ADHD and hope you’ll forget the last two years. To do it, Democratic campaigns and elected officials will label conservative voters as radicals. It will be all names without any substance.
In Colorado, Secretary of State Jena Griswold wants voters to believe if Democrats lose, free and fair elections are over, and Republicans will harm your right to vote. Did she bother to look at the Georgia primary? They enjoyed a record primary turnout. No one lost their right to vote who was legally eligible. Still, that didn’t stop her from calling Republicans “extreme.”
Let’s not forget this one anytime soon. In 2008, Obama said conservatives loved to cling to their guns and religion. In 2016, Hillary Clinton referred to us as “irreparable” and “deplorable.” In 2020 and 2021, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) referred to the GOP as “insurrectionists.” Now, President Joe Biden says MAGA Republicans are semi-fascists. None of them even know what those words mean.
So, while the Left whales on Trump for his rhetoric, they are just as out of control. I don’t condone Trump’s rhetoric. Still, two wrongs don’t make a right.
My fellow conservatives, the way we fight back is not to get angry. It’s with reason and facts. The more reason and facts the Left receives, the more some will act like schoolyard bullies destined to a life of mediocrity. Emotions rule too many. Treat them the way they deserve to be treated. Let’s not get in the mud with the Left. Instead, make your case and move on. We can win independents over and succeed in November.
